Japanese Gold Lacquer Boxes

Erik Thomsen Gallery is pleased to announce that our latest exhibition of Japanease Gold Lacquer Boxes will open Tuesday November 15, featuring more than 30 works dating from the 18th century to the present. Our selection focuese on items suited to the daily lives of Japan's upper classes all of them with exquisit decorations in the full range of maki-e ("sprinkled-picture") techniques unique to Japan.

We are delighted to announce that Erik Thomsen Gallery has been selected for the New York debut of TEFAF, opening this weekend at the Park Avenue Armory.

Founded in 1988, The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) has evolved into the most respected of all art and antique fairs. Headquartered in Maastricht, it's comprehensive displays of outstanding works presented by top dealers from around the world offer "One-stop shopping for the cultural elite."

To mark this unique event, our stand No. 47 will be anchored by a pair of Japanese six-panel folding screens depicting a grand, sweeping composition of blossoming cherry trees by a rushing stream, richly embellished with gold, silver, and vibrant mineral pigments.
