Feathers Paper Box
Item number: T-3532
Size: H 1.5" x W 10.8" x L 11.9" (3.9 x 27.5 x 30.1 cm)
Makie gold lacquer
Box for square shikishi drawing/poem paper. The mirror surface of the lid is decorated with a togidashi decor of feathers floating between clouds of nashiji on the roiro black lacquer ground. The makie feathers that are executed in powders of silver and several hues of gold seem to drift above brown-lacquer feathers deep inside the lid, imparting a three-dimensional feeling. The inside of the box is decorated with nashiji gold flakes and the bottom is in roiro mirror-black lacquer.
The Feathers Paper Box was exhibited at the 37th Annual Traditional Arts of Japan in Kinki Exhibition in 2008, where it was illustrated in the accompanying catalog.
The box comes with its original kiri-wood tomobako box that is inscribed on the lid »Feathers Gold Lacquer Paper Box« and signed »made by Yoshio« with a red seal mark reading »Yoshio«.
